The Executive Order of May 1st and the Blockade Measures Announced Today Further Increase the Harm to the Cuban Population and Reinforce the Threat of Aggression

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejects, in the strongest possible terms, the Executive Order issued by the White House on May 1st, 2026, which tightens, to unprecedented and extreme levels, the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.

Meeting Confirmed Between Cuba and US Officials 

General Deputy Director for U.S. Affairs, Alejandro García del Toro spoke to Granma.

Alejandro García del Toro, general deputy director for U.S. Affairs at Cuba's Foreign Ministry (MINREX), confirmed recent foreign press reports on meetings between US and Cuba’s officials in Havana.

“It’s a sensitive matter that, as we have said, we have managed discreetly,” he said.

The Cuban official confirmed that assistant secretaries from the U.S. State Department met with a Cuban delegation led by a deputy minister of foreign relations.

Recent statements made by some US Government officials speculate, without any evidence whatsoever, about the fact that the Government of Cuba could be involved in frauds targeting the US health care program Medicare in South Florida.  This is a new slander fabricated by anti-Cuban sectors in that country.

In a recent interview with Newsweek, the President of Cuba and First Secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, stated that establishing a dialogue with the United States and reaching certain agreements is possible. According to the President, Cuba has always been willing to maintain civilized relations with its northern neighbor, respecting sovereignty, self-determination, and the principles of reciprocity and international law.
