NASSAU, June 9th, 2017 -The 42nd Annual Conference of the Association of Caribbean Studies, in which Cuba assumed the temporary presidency, concluded this afternoon.
This edition, which took place in Nassau from June 5 to 9, was attended by researchers from different Caribbean nations. The Cuban delegation was represented at the event by nine researchers from different universities of the island, Casa del Caribe and Casa de las Américas. The delegation was composed by Kenia Dorta, Emilio Jorge Rodríguez, Neris Rodríguez Matos, Samuel Fure Davis, Kirenia Rodríguez Puerto, Camila Valdés León, Sindy Martínez Lemes, Antonio Herrada Hidalgo and Yolanda Wood Pujols. The latter assumed the presidency for the next period.
Under the title "Culture and knowledge economies: the future of Caribbean development?" the 42nd Conference was held. The presentations made by the members of the Cuban delegation were very well received.
In an interview with Keithley Woolward, outgoing President of the Caribbean Studies Association and professor at the University of The Bahamas, he referred to the high expectations regarding the next edition to be held in Cuba, where a number of countries in the region will be present.
The upcoming conference is scheduled to take place in Cuba in June 2018, coinciding with the 290th Anniversary of the foundation of the University of Havana.
