44th Anniversary of Sri Lanka Cuba Friendship Society

It is with deep sense of solidarity we send this message of greetings to ICAP on the occasion of 44th Anniversary of Sri Lanka Cuba Friendship Society.

The friendship and solidarity between peoples of our countries are deep rooted and were given a jump start with the visit of Ernesto Che Guevara, an iconic leader of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, immediately after the victory of that great historic event. Since then, the friendship and solidarity between peoples of our countries have strengthened with time.

Sri Lanka has stood by heroic Cuba throughout the history in its struggle against barbaric economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by powerful northern neighbor, USA. Apart from the criminal blockade there were numerous instances of anti-Cuban activities sponsored, resourced and executed by USA. The heroic Cuban people and the government of Cuba were able to face them and lead the country on the path of development.

The COVID – 19 pandemic is a difficult period the world is going through. The ever growing reputation of Cuba received another booster due to its’ humane approach in the response to pandemic. While controlling and containing the epidemic successfully within the country, it has been providing medical brigades to dozens of countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe.

It is beyond imagination the behavior of USA even during these difficult days for entire world. While tightening the screws of sanctions and blockade further, the terrorist and criminal activities have been unleashed against Cuba. The attack on the Cuban Embassy in Washington DC on 30th April should be condemned vehemently by everybody and all countries. The Sri Lanka - Cuba friendship Association demands USA for actions against the criminal act and bring the culprits to justice.

While being happy for the contribution made towards the cause of solidarity with Cuba, the Sri Lanka - Cuba Friendship Association is determined to continue the journey with people of Cuba on their way for peace and development.
