The Communist Party of Sri Lanka expresses its unwavering solidarity with the revolutionary government and people of the Republic of Cuba, who once again face renewed imperialist pressure from the United States on the eve of the United Nations General Assembly vote demanding an end to the illegal blockade imposed on the country for over six decades.

It is known worldwide that the Republic of Cuba has suffered immense hardship as a result of
the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America
for nearly six decades.
For the past 30 years, Cuba has consistently presented resolutions before the United Nations
General Assembly calling for the lifting of this unjust embargo. Each year, the international
community has overwhelmingly supported Cuba’s appeal.
In 2024, the resolution calling for an end to the U.S. embargo was approved by 187 members

We strongly condemn the shameful attempt by the United States to undermine the resolution that Cuba is submitting to the United Nations.
For nearly six decades, Cuba has suffered under the severe economic, commercial, and financial sanctions imposed by the United States. For almost 30 years, Cuba has appealed to the United Nations General Assembly, submitting an annual resolution calling for an end to this unjust blockade".
