The 52nd Anniversary of the fall of Che in combat is commemorated in Sri Lanka

SRI LANKA, October 9, 2019. – Organized by the Socialist Youth Union of Sri Lanka (SYU), an emotional ceremony was held in honor of Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of his fall in combat. The event took place in the well-known "Garden of Che", where he planted a mahogany tree during his visit to Sri Lanka, in August 1959.

 In his speech, the Ambassador of Cuba, Juana Elena Ramos Rodríguez, highlighted the validity of Che's ideas in the achievements of the Cuban Revolution, as well as in our fight against the blockade imposed by the United States government.

The central words were given by the Member of Parliament, Hon. Sunil Handunnetti, who highlighted Che's life and work and its importance for all the peoples of the world.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Che's visit to Sri Lanka and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During the event, the National Coordinator of the Socialist Youth Union of Sri Lanka, Eranga Gunasekasera, delivered to the Ambassador of Cuba a statement adopted by the NYU, expressing their total rejection of the blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba.
