Dear Jamaican friends!
Today Jamaica celebrates 57 years of political independence.
The birth of an independent Jamaica on 6 August 1962 wouldn’t have been possible without the sacrifices and struggle of generations of its sons and daughters. Let’s not forget them in this moment of joy.
In facing the new challenges –to achieve economic independence and prosperity– Jamaica can count on its naturally talented, innovative people, and with the help of its friends all over the world.
As the closest neighbor and a historical friend, Cuba has forged indestructible ties with Jamaica.
More than 650 university graduates of this country have been trained in Cuba. Nowadays, about 350 Cuban cooperants on Health and Education are serving in Jamaica. Operation “Miracle” has treated thousands of Jamaicans with eye problems.
Cuba doesn’t forget the courageous decision of Jamaica of establishing diplomatic relations with us in 1972 –an act that broke down the hemispheric diplomatic isolation that the USA tried to impose on us after the triumph of the Revolution– and the continued support against the blockade and other challenges we have endured throughout all these years.
One love my Jamaican brothers and sisters!
¡Felicidades, Jamaica!
