Minister of Water, Environment and Climate Change of Jamaica receives the Ambassador of Cuba.

Kingston, 11 June 2026. The Honourable Matthew Samuda, Minister of Water, Environment and Climate Change of Jamaica, received the Ambassador of Cuba, Tania López Larroque.

During the meeting, both parties acknowledged the climate challenges facing both countries, as well as the potential for increasing bilateral cooperation on environmental matters, natural disaster prevention and protection, and the efficient management and use of water resources.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) expresses its profound concern regarding the ongoing and intensifying economic, commercial, and financial measures imposed upon the Republic of Cuba. Revolutionary Cuba has an inviolable right to its existence as a sovereign nation, like all the other countries within the United Nations (UN)

A right which is further strengthened by law and specifically Article 51 of the charter of UN, which gives states the Right to Self Defense.

Additionally, it's civilian arm, International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) makes it abundantly clear, that aircraft used for purposes that are not compatible with civilian status, loses the protection normally afforded in civil aviation.
