As we reflect on Cuba Caricom Day which is commemorated on the 8th of December each year, we go back 53 years ago in 1972, when 4 of our recently independent states namely, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago,took the bold and historic step in establishing diplomatic relations with our sister country Cuba.This was done despite the pressures and shenanigans of USA and its regional enforcer, the Organisation of American States(OAS)
Today, December 8, 2025, Cuba and CARICOM celebrate the 53rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the independent states of CARICOM and Cuba, and the 23rd anniversary of Cuba-CARICOM Day.

Convened by the Embassy of Cuba and the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica “Antonio Maceo,” a tribute was held to the Bronze Titan 129 years after his fall in combat, in front of the statue erected in his honor in Heroes Park in this city. Representatives of the State Mission, the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, political forces, and social movements also participated.
