Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica holds a meeting with the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Office of Global Affairs at the UWI

Kingston, 14 April 2026. The Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Tania López Larroque, held a meeting with Sandrea Maynard, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Office of Global Affairs at the University of the West Indies (UWI).

During the meeting, Maynard provided detailed information on the Office’s work in promoting the UWI’s partnerships with higher education institutions in Latin America, the Caribbean and globally. She also highlighted the aim of providing more accessible opportunities for professional development for students across its five campuses.

Cuban community in Jamaica celebrates International Spanish Language Day

Last Friday, 10 April, members of the Cuban community residents in Jamaica celebrated International Spanish Language Day as part of the tenth graduation ceremony for the ‘English for Foreigners’ course at the Caribbean Training Institute for Languages. The event was attended by the Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Tania López Larroque, as well as the Heads of Mission from Colombia and Spain.

Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica visits G.C. Foster College

Spanish Town, 1 April 2026. The Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Tania López Larroque, paid a visit to the ‘CG Foster’ College of Physical Education and Sport, an educational institution donated by Cuba to the brotherly Jamaican people. The idea for this college was conceived following Fidel’s first visit to Jamaica and his discussions with the then Prime Minister, Michael Manley. Both leaders regarded sport as a powerful unifying force that promotes healthy competition, goodwill and tolerance.
