60th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution in Si Lanka

SRI LANKA, December 30, 2018. - Yesterday evening, a large group of friends came to the Embassy of Cuba to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

In his speech, the former Member of Parliament and Secretary General of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, Dew Gunasekara, recalled the moment in which the news was known in Sri Lanka that, in Cuba, a true revolution had triumphed under the leadership of a young man named Fidel Castro. Despite the distance, from that moment a feeling of friendship and solidarity towards the Caribbean island emerged in his country. Likewise, he reiterated that after 60 years, the ideas and the example of that young man remain fully valid.

The Ambassador of Cuba, Juana Elena Ramos Rodríguez, thanked the support given by Sri Lanka to Cuba in its fight against the policy of blockade imposed by the United States government on Cuba. On November 1, Sri Lanka voted again in favor of the Cuban resolution against the blockade, in the General Assembly of the United Nations.
