SRI LANKA, January 25, 2020, - Organized by the Association of Friendship Cuba-Sri Lanka, the Guitar Association and the Public Library of Colombo and held at the headquarters of the latter a conversation about Cuba, “61 years of resistance and achievements”, on the occasion of the 61st Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution.
The Cuban ambassador, Juana Elena Ramos Rodríguez, referred to the brutal and insane way that during 2019 escalated the aggression against Cuba by the current US administration in order to suffocate the Cuban economy.
She emphasized that the measures adopted are aimed at sabotaging Cuba's foreign trade and impeding financial transactions with third countries, including payments, collections and credit possibilities. They also seek to interrupt the supplies of the national industry, limit access to technology and sources of capital and economic income, with specific actions against fuel transportation, tourism and international health services.
To this end, the United States has deployed an intense and injurious campaign against the medical collaboration that Cuba offers. It is immoral and unacceptable to question the dignity, professionalism and altruism of the more than 400,000 health workers who, in 56 years, have completed missions in 164 nations.
Dr. Tissa Vitarana, Governor of the North Central Province and Acting President of the Cuba - Sri Lanka Friendship Association, reiterated their solidarity with Cuba and rejected the measures taken by the Trump administration against Cuba, while highlighting how to despite this, Cuba has achieved great success in various fields such as medicine, considered among the best in the world.
Those present in the activity, among who were Raja Collure, Governor of Uva province and Chairman of the Communist Party, other leaders of political parties and members of the association of graduates, joined the words of Dr. Vitarana and demanded the US government to leave their "Hands off Cuba."
The cultural part was in charge of the Sri Lankan Guitar Association, who performed the music of the prominent Cuban musician, Leo Brower.
