Kingston, 18 April 2024. Diplomats and collaborators of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica, graduates in Cuba, members of political parties, the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica "Antonio Maceo" (ACRJ), the Solidarity Movement and youth organizations and social movements gathered at the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the victory of Playa Giron, the first defeat of Yankee imperialism in America.
Osvaldo Cárdenas, president of the ACRJ, provided a detailed historical overview in which he explained the main factors that led to the mercenary invasion of Playa Girón and which subsequently made the triumph of the Cuban forces possible.
During the interventions of Alexander Scott, representative of the Left Alliance for National Democracy and Socialism (LANDS); Trevor Brown, member of the executive board of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association (JCFA) and Dr. Arlene Blake Mc-Cain, a graduate of our country and vice-president of the JCFA, condemned the genocidal policy of the blockade and the destabilising manoeuvres orchestrated from abroad against the Cuban Revolution, as well as the rejection of Cuba's inclusion in the spurious list of states that supposedly sponsor terrorism.
In his remarks to those present, the Ambassador of Cuba, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, highlighted the prowess of the Cuban people led by our Commander in Chief in the battles of Playa Girón. He reiterated our nation's decision to continue the struggle against the blockade, peace and solidarity, defending the "Revolution of the humble, by the humble and for the humble" at the price of any sacrifice.
As part of the activity, collaborators of the Medical and Educational Brigades declaimed the poems "Elegy of the white zapaticos", written by the Indio Naborí and "La sangre numerosa", by our national poet Nicolás Guillén.
