64th anniversary of the Playa Girón victory is celebrated in Jamaica

Kingston, 16 April 2025. Members of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica (ACRJ), the Solidarity Movement, graduates in our country, representatives of political organisations and a representation of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica celebrated the 64th anniversary of the victory of Playa Girón.

Yuritzán Cuba Viñals, on behalf of the Cuban education and health cooperants, highlighted the relevance of the date, which marks the declaration of the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution by our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. He ratified our nation's decision to continue defending the ‘Revolution of the humble, by the humble and for the humble’ at the price of any sacrifice.

Osvaldo Cárdenas Junquera, president of the ACRJ, shared decisive moments of the leadership of the Commander in Chief in the actions that took place on the sands of Playa Girón and which led to the victory over the invading forces.

In his words to those present, Cuban Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez stressed that the present-day Girón, which transcends the borders of the island, is a fact of Latin America and the Caribbean; a fact of resistance against US imperialism. He reaffirmed that the struggle to put an end to the genocidal blockade and to remove our country from the spurious list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism, will continue to be one of Fatherland or Death!

As part of the activity, collaborators declaimed the poem ‘Abril sus flores abría’, written by Nicolás Guillén and a version of the song ‘Playa Girón’, written by Silvio Rodríguez.
