Oslo, April 28, 2025. Members of the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association, the Communist Party of Norway, the Red Party, the Committee for a Dignified Chile, as well as Norwegian, Latin American and Cubans friends, joined the staff of the Cuban Embassy to commemorate the 64th anniversary of the Victory of Playa Girón.
Following a brief introduction by the Ambassador, Maité Rivero Torres, those present had the opportunity to watch the documentary film "66 Hours: The Bay of Pigs True Story", made by Mundo Latino, which explains all the details of the invasion and contains testimonies from several of its main participants, as well as images of the battle.
Paulius Eidukas wanted to share his impressions and experiences from his visit last year to Playa Girón and the museum there, as part of the program of the 17th International Brigade of Voluntary Work and Solidarity with Cuba "May 1st." His words and the videos he showed were very much appreciated.
Olaf Svorstøl Sierraalta made moving remarks on how, being a very young man, he closely followed the events taking place in April 1961 in Cuba and experienced great joy upon learning of the Cuban people's victory at Playa Girón, which represented the first major defeat of imperialism in America.
Sara González's iconic song "Girón, the victory and the poems "April opened its flowers", by Nicolás Guillén, and "Elegy of the little white shoes", by Jesús Orta Ruiz, provided the perfect closure to un unforgettable gathering. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
