Kingston, 27 January 2024. Convened by the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association, a political-cultural evening took place in celebration of the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution. Present at the event were the Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, members of the State Mission, Cuban residents, graduates in Cuba and members of political organisations and social movements that integrate the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba.
Everton Hanna, a Cuban graduate and secretary of the Jamaican Commission for UNESCO, expressed his gratitude for the countless expressions of solidarity shown by the Cuban people and government to Jamaica since the establishment of diplomatic relations in the 1970s. He acknowledged the important work performed by the members of the Medical and Educational Brigades in every corner of the island.
In his words to those present, Ambassador Fermín Quiñones highlighted the relevance of this anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution, in an adverse context marked by the tightening of the blockade and the inclusion of our country in the unilateral list of state sponsors of terrorism. He also reaffirmed the will to continue strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation that unite both nations.
The occasion was propitious to commemorate the 171st anniversary of the birth of our National Hero.
