The Embassy of Cuba in Egypt celebrated on Wednesday 24 the 66th Anniversary of the assault on the Moncada Garrison and the 93rd Anniversary of the birth of the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, in an activity that highlighted the importance of these two interconnected dates and enjoyed a typical dish that identifies and unites Cubans: the caldosa.
In the openning of the meeting, the Chargé d'Affaires a.i., Jorge Mazón Rodríguez, explained to the attendees that: “It was Fidel who shook the conscience of the Cuban people when, with a handful of poorly armed and moderately trained young men, he assaulted the second military barrack of the country. In our schools it is repeated as a verse that “the assault on the Moncada was the small engine that started the big engine”, but this phrase is only valued when the achievements of the Cuban Revolution are appreciated throughout 60 years".
Then, the Cuban diplomat told how preparing a caldosa to celebrate Fidel's birthday is almost a tradition in Cuba. Precisely, in tribute to Fidel, huge popular caldosas have been prepared, which, it is said, have contributed up to 3 thousand portions:
"To celebrate this day we have prepared a Cuban caldosa, heiress of the tradition of ajiacos of our country and considered the national dish of Cuba, not only for its more than 500 years of history but because it represents the intense mixture of our culture" added the diplomat.
The gathering at the Cuban Embassy was attended by ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Cairo, members of the Cuban-Egypt and Egypt-Latin America Friendship Associations, Egyptian journalists and Cuban residents in the country.
