Egyptian media highlight new sanctions imposed on Cuba by the United States.

Cairo, October 2, 2026. Egyptian newspapers highlighted yesterday the new sanctions imposed on Cuba by the U.S. government, describing them as a further escalation of the U.S. blockade against the island, aimed at tightening the noose around the Cuban government. These sanctions impose additional restrictions on certain financial transactions and on travel by U.S. citizens to Cuba.

The articles note that under these new sanctions, announced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, indirect financial transactions with sanctioned Cuban entities are prohibited, particularly those linked to security services and GAESA.

In his remarks, the Cuban diplomat highlighted the words of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz from 66 years ago, in a memorable speech at the UN podium when he stated: “Let the philosophy of plunder disappear, and the philosophy of war will have disappeared! Let the colonies disappear, let the exploitation of countries by monopolies disappear, and then humanity will have reached a true stage of progress!”

Egyptian Progressive Parties Reaffirm Support for Cuba in the Face of U.S. Aggressive Policy

Cairo, September 28, 2026. Several progressive parties in Egypt reaffirmed their support and solidarity with Cuba in the face of the United States’ aggressive policy and the Trump administration’s new threats against the independence and sovereignty of the Greater Antilles.

During a meeting held by Cuban Ambassador Alexander Pellicer Moraga with the top leaders of the Communist Party of Egypt, the Socialist Party of Egypt, the Popular Socialist Alliance, and the Nasserist Party, discussions focused on the difficult situation in Cuba due to the intensification of the blockade, the oil blockade, and the fascist and genocidal policy implemented by the U.S. government against the Cuban people.

Cairo, September 23, 2026. Egyptian newspapers today highlighted the Cuban delegation’s withdrawal from the UN in response to the falsehoods about Cuba made by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Donald Trump once again lied about Cuba by labeling it a “failed state,” and he once again predicted the fall of the Cuban government in the face of the intense pressure his country is exerting on the Largest of the Antilles.

Communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba learned today, September 18, through media reports, of the surprising statement made by Costa Rican Foreign Minister Manuel Tovar Rivera to the Miami Herald that “diplomatic relations have been severed” with Cuba, a fact that has never been formally notified to the Cuban government by the authorities of that country.

As previously reported, on March 17, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Costa Rica informed our Foreign Ministry, via a diplomatic note and without offering any justification, of its unilateral decision to close that country’s embassy in Cuba. Furthermore, it requested that Cuba, without any justification and invoking an alleged and unfounded principle of reciprocity, withdraw the diplomatic staff from its Embassy in San José and retain only consular and administrative personnel.
