THE 66TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ASSAULTS TO THE MONCADA AND CARLOS MANUEL DE CÉSPEDES BARRACKS IS COMMEMORATED IN SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES

With a political-cultural patriotic evening, the Cuban Embassy and the Cuban Medical Brigade in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines commemorated the 66th anniversary of the heroic deed of July 26, 1953.

After an introductory presentation by the Head of the Cuban Medical Brigade, Dr. Nelson Vicente Díaz Lobo, the attendees had the opportunity to listen to the speech of the Cuban Public Health Minister, Dr. José Angel Portal Miranda, during the 72nd World Health Assembly. 

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Welfness and Environment of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Cuthbert Knights, as well as the Ambassador of Venezuela, Francisco Pérez Santana along with his diplomatic mission collective, joined the Cubans to remember the important date.

Cuthbert Knights emphasized that the work of the Cuban Medical Brigade allows for the excellence of the services provided in the Modern Medical Complex of Georgetown and contributes decisively to the elevation of the levels of medical assistance in the district clinics and in the Hospital of Kingstown.

The Head of the Venezuelan Mission expressed the warm and fraternal greetings of the homeland of Bolivar and Chavez to the Cuban people on the occasion of such a special ephemera.

In her speech, Cuban Ambassador Vilma Reyes Valdespino recalled the historical context in which the events of July 26 took place, its participants, the leadership of the young Fidel Castro and the significance of a deed that deal initiation of the rebellion that only ended with the revolutionary triumph of January 1959, bequeathing to us the teaching, that the setbacks can be convert into victory.

Moving moments and events, before and after the action of the 26th, were exposed by the Head of Mission in her speech, in which she underscored her conviction that, as Fidel said, "They would have been like us and we, then, would have been like them", because rebelliousness  and courage define us as a nation.
