Oslo, January 27, 2025. The 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution was celebrated in this city with an activity organized by the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association (Cubaforeningen i Norge).
Members of the Association and of several left-wing political parties; diplomats from Palestine and Venezuela; leaders of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions LO in Oslo, several Latin Americans living in this country; friends in general, and the staff of the Embassy took part in the commemoration.
The ambassador of Cuba to Norway, Maité Rivero Torres, gave a speech in which she highlighted the meaning of that glorious January 1, 1959 for Cuba and for the world. She also underlined the main achievements of the Revolution, especially in the last year, despite the difficulties arising from the turbulent international scenario, the strengthening of the blockade imposed by the United States, the presence of the country on the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism, and the natural phenomena and the energy contingency situation that the country faced.
The Cuban diplomat also referred to the challenges that lie ahead for this new year 2025, in which Cuba will continue to denounce the US blockade, because the only correct thing to do is to lift it. “You, the friends of Cuba, are an essential part of this struggle, so we ask you to continue to accompany us until this policy, that causes harm and suffering to our people, is definitively lifted.”
Ramón Gordils Montes, ambassador of Venezuela, and Marie Antoinette Sedin, ambassador of Palestine, expressed heartfelt words of congratulations to the Cuban government and people, as well as recognition of the work of the Revolution and the close ties forged by Cuba with their respective countries over these 66 years.
Speeches were also heard from Lispet Kristiansen, member of the board of the Friendship Association; Paulius Eidukas, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Norway (NKP), and Emmanuel Shokrian and Thale Brenna, representing the Red and Peace and Justice parties, respectively, who highlighted the achievements and accomplishments of the Cuban revolutionary process and reaffirmed solidarity with it.
As a tribute to the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and for highlighting the validity of his ideas, an audiovisual material was screened with one of his reflection on the catastrophic effect that the use of nuclear weapons would have on the human species and the need, therefore, to promote their total elimination.
