Colombo, 30th December 2025. The 67th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution was commemorated at the Cuban Embassy in Sri Lanka, with a political and cultural event organized by the diplomatic mission and the Cuban Graduates Association of Sri Lanka (CGASL).
In her words, the Ambassador of Cuba, Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra, summarized the main challenges faced by the Island during 2025, commented the historic connotation of the Cuban Revolution at present times with the reinforcement of the US blockade y highlighted the thought, life and legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, historic leader of the Revolution, not only for the Island, but also around the globe, particularly to Sri Lanka, country that formalized diplomatic relations with Cuba as early as July 29th 1959.
Pego Guerra also outlined the priorities of Cuba for 2026, conveyed gratitude to presents and appreciated their permanent solidarity with Cuba. She made reference to the bilateral relations with Sri Lanka and reaffirmed the willingness of her government to continue developing the existing bonds, in benefit of both peoples.
Among participants, there were different generations of Sri Lanka graduates in Cuba, Cubans residents in Sri Lanka, staff of the Cuban Embassy, friends and neighbors, who shared their affection, closeness, respect and support to the Cuba Revolution.
