Cuba's National Rebellion Day was commemorated in Athens at a gathering convened by the Hellenic-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity and other organizations in solidarity with the heroic struggle waged by the Cuban people. The event, held in the gardens of the Panhellenic Union of Fighters in Makronisos, was well attended by members of the solidarity movement and friends of Cuba. In their remarks, both Nikos Karandreas, president of the Hellenic-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity, and the Cuban ambassador, Aramís Fuente Hernández, emphasized the historical significance of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks and addressed the current situation of the Cuban people under the extreme measures of the criminal economic, commercial, financial, and energy blockade maintained by the United States government against the courageous and unwavering island. The cruel and constant threats and aggressions constitute collective punishment and a veritable genocide, intended to create a humanitarian crisis to break the will of the Cuban people, weaken the unwavering resistance that has characterized their struggle for almost 70 years, and overthrow their Revolution. But Cuba is not alone, and once again, solidarity with its people and the strong condemnation of the imperialist aggressors were reaffirmed.
On this occasion the event was dedicated to the Centenary of the Birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, to whom a heartfelt tribute was paid.
