8TH REGIONAL ASIA PACIFIC MEETING OF SOLIDARITY WITH CUBA CONCLUDES

Kuala Lumpur, April 10th - The 8th Asia Pacific regional meeting of solidarity with Cuba concluded yesterday afternoon in the Philippines with the adoption of the Manila Declaration.

The event, devoted to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro brought together 120 delegates from 18 countries for two days, debated the solidarity work carried out in the last two years and the need to continue to support our country as a bulwark against imperialism in its just struggle for the elimination of Blockade, the return of the territory that illegally occupies the naval base of Guantanamo and the cessation of subversive programs to bring about changes in our political, economic and social system.

The delegates who worked in two commissions agreed on the need to keep the solidarity movement active, to continue to spread the truth about Cuba to counter negative media campaigns and to diversify solidarity actions. It was also agreed to resume the proposal to establish July 26 as a day of solidarity with Cuba in the Asia Pacific region.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr Francisco Nemenzo thanked all the delegates for their enthusiastic response to the convening of the meeting. He also acknowledged the presence of the Cuban delegation chaired by the writer and journalist, Marta Rojas, ICAP Vice President Alicia Corredera, Cuban Ambassador to the Philippines, Ibete Fernández and ICAP Yexenia Calzado official.

For her part, the Cuban Ambassador thanked the organizers for the coordination of the event and acknowledged the hard work that for decades have been made by the friendly associations in the Philippines to keep alive the solidarity with our country.
