90th Anniversary of Fidel Castro celebrating in Ghana

A political-cultural activity in honor of the 90th birthday of Cuban leader Fidel Castro was held at the residence of the Cuban Ambassador, with the participation of government officials, members of the solidarity campaign with Cuba, political leaders, former Ghanaian Ambassadors on the Island, a broad representation of Ghanaians graduates in Cuba, Cuban residents in the country and the staff of the Embassy.

The Minister at the Presidency, Mr. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, attended the activity on behalf of the Vice President of Ghana. The Minister in his words spoke on the universal work developed by Fidel, and his undoubted contribution in the formation of new values and his decisive assistance to the achievement of the independence of several African countries. Also, the former Ambassador to Cuba, Mr. Amo Gottfried; the Secretary of the Presidency, Mr. Kwesi Quartey, and the Ambassador of Cuba, Mr. Pedro L. Despaigne González, highlighted facets of the work developed by the leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Among the hundreds of people that attended, were also Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, presidential candidate for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mrs. Zanetor Rawlings, Ghana's parliamentary candidate for the ruling party the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the leader of the Socialist Forum of Ghana, our friend Kwesi Pratt,.

Earlier in the morning, and with the same goal, it was played a fraternal baseball game between a group of young Ghanaians practitioners of this sport, a group of Ghanaians graduates in Cuba, well known as "cubanitos", members of the Cuban Embassy and members of the Japanese Embassy. Cuban residents in Ghana also attended the event.
