Nairobi, August 13, 2023- We celebrate today the 97th anniversary of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz birth, on August 13, 1926. We pay tribute from Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary, planting 97 trees in his memory. We remember the great friend of Africa and Latin America, the exceptional paradigm and tireless fighter for the preservation of the environment.
Through this event, the Cuban Embassy in Kenya also contributed to the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto's iniciative, focused on planting 15 billion trees by 2032, a measure aimed at reducing greenhouse emissions, stopping and reversing deforestation. The African Landscape Restoration Initiative, which was launched on 22nd December, 2022, aims to restore 5.1 million hectares of deforested and degraded landscapes.
We were accompanied in this homage, by Ambassador Josephat Maikara, Secretary, Foreign Service Administration; Brazilian ambassador to Kenya, Silvio Albuquerque; Chargé d'Affairs of the Venezuelan embassy in Kenya, César Chavarri; representative of the Kenya Forest Service, Mr. Nguyai, as well as members of the Solidarity Group with Cuba, officials, workers from the Cuban mission, health and Labiofam collaborators who provide services in Kenya.
