The Turkish Association of Friendship with Cuba "José Martí" organised in the cultural centre Nazım Hikmet of this city two sessions of conferences to expose the achievements of the Cuban education system since the revolutionary triumph and its process of transformations until today.
More than a dozen Turkish citizens participated in the academic event in its first session, which started last Saturday, where they discussed and got to know about the Cuban Education System through the book "The Alphabet of the Revolution", written by the member of the DeryaÜnlü Solidarity Association. The young writer begins her literary work with a narrative of the national literacy campaign, launched in 1961 by the nascent revolutionary government, which made it possible to eradicate illiteracy and facilitate universal access to Cubans to the different levels of education free of charge.
At the next meeting, the participants will screen and discuss the documentaries "Maestra" and "Azúcar y Sal". The former, directed by the American documentary filmmaker Catherine Murphy, also includes testimonies of women who participated in the epic of the educational and social work of the Cuban revolution that was the literacy period.
For its part, "Sugar and Salt" by the German filmmaker Tobias Kriele, is dedicated to four women and their 50-year friendship, born in the Sierra Maestra after the triumph of the Revolution during the literacy campaign.
The workshop on the education system in Cuba in its first meeting has been very well received by the Turkish public present and its presentation in Turkey contributes to the recognition of the important role played by women in the different stages of the Cuban Revolution.
