Islamabad, March 5, 2026. The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Damián Cordero Torres, had the privilege of being received on a courtesy visit by Mr. Rudolph Pierre Jordaan, Political Advisor and Acting High Commissioner of South Africa in Pakistan.
After recalling the legacy of leaders Fidel Castro and Nelson Mandela in the current bilateral relationship between Cuba and South Africa, both diplomats reviewed the difficult international situation and especially the war unleashed in the Middle East, initiated by Israel and the United States against Iran. Similarly, they assessed the ironclad blockade that Cuba is experiencing in the face of the onslaught of the US government, depriving the country of supplies, especially oil. Mr. Pierre Jordaan expressed his admiration for the resilience of the Cuban people in facing the challenges imposed by this inhumane policy against the island. For his part, the Cuban ambassador thanked South Africa for its unconditional support each year at the United Nations podium in favor of lifting the US blockade against Cuba, as well as for rejecting its inclusion on the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism. Similarly, both diplomatic representatives agreed on Cuba's commitment to South Africa in health cooperation, as well as active exchange in other areas such as education, science, technology, and innovation.
