African virtual forum of solidarity with Cuba condemns the blockade on the 59th anniversary of the victory at Playa Girón

Under the auspices of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), and the coordination of the “Amílcar Cabral Ideological School (ACIS), an organization that is a member of the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba in Nigeria, on April 19 and 20, a Virtual Symposium to commemorate the 59th  Anniversary of the victory at Playa Giron took place, in which representatives of solidarity with Cuba in Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, South Africa, Germany and the United States participated; ICAP, represented by its President, Fernando González Llort and other directors and officials of that institution; the Cuban ambassadors in Nigeria and Ghana, Clara Pulido Escandell and Pedro Luis Despaigne González; officials from both embassies; the Venezuelan ambassador to Nigeria, David Nieves Velásquez Caraballo; and Miriam Morales Palmero, official of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

The virtual event was developed through a group created by the organizers on the WhatsApp digital platform, as a means of expressing ideas about the meaning of Playa Girón's victory, and the rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade policy. , imposed for more than six decades on the Cuban people, by successive US administrations. In Ghana, the Event was replicated in the WhatsApp group of the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba.

In the presentations of the Cuban representatives and members of the solidarity, the significance for Cuba and for the world of the first defeat of Yankee imperialism in Latin America was highlighted; the heroism of the Cuban people; the leadership capacity and example of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro; Cuba's commitment to the African continent, expressed in the actions of its internationalist fighters and its collaborators in other spheres, especially Health; the presence of Cuban collaborators in more than twenty countries, contributing to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, despite the difficulties Cuba is undergoing due to the reinforcement of the unjust blockade exercised by the United States.

The Symposium initially scheduled for April 19, lasted until April 20. In it, a Resolution condemning the blockade was approved, in which the United States government is urged to lift it immediately.

The Event, developed amidst the limitations of personal contact originated by Covid-19, demonstrated the possibilities of new communications technologies for exchange between progressive forces and solidarity.
