History should not be forgotten, and it is important to remember on 9/11 a worthy figure like president Salvador Allende's and what it meant for his people and for the global revolutionary movement.
Many remember on September 11, 2001, the terrorist attack in New York. Cuba has been the victim of terrorism and knows its consequences in its own flesh. But we must not forget what happened on September 11, 1973 in Chile, when a fascist coup ended the life of President Allende and his government of Popular Unity. With the fascists, repression, murders, torture, the disappeared, the end of freedoms, the horrors that came to light years later dominated. It is important that you do not forget what fascism is able to do to destroy popular projects and strengthen its interests.
The Cuban Revolution was always at President Allende's side, supporting him in his struggle for a better country for his people. And his government suffered aggressions similar to those suffered by the Cuban people, for trying to make a different and revolutionary project.
Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz was a sincere friend of President Allende and his people. Fidel's words show the respect, admiration and affection he felt for Allende, which he describes as an example of courage, patriotism and human dignity. It also highlights the importance it attaches to power to the people and people to the success of the revolutionary work, and the need to fight for those ideals.
In his last message to his people broadcast by Radio Magellan, Allende said:
"Workers of my homeland: I have faith in Chile and its destiny. Other men will overcome the grey and bitter moment, where betrayal is intended to prevail. You continue to know that, much sooner rather than later, the great avenues will be opened wherever the free man passes, to build a better society.!"
We must not forget history, let alone in today's global context with the rebirth of fascist tendencies that seek to make the past forget. The world's revolutionaries must be alert and aware of history and move forward in our fight for a better future.
