Cairo, April 16, 2025. The Cuban ambassador to Cairo, Alexander Pellicer, spoke today with Egyptian university professors and students, with whom he shared about the culture, history and traditions of the Caribbean nation.
During a meeting at the headquarters of the City of Culture and Sciences, in this capital, the diplomat reviewed the history of his country and various aspects of its society, including literature and sports.
Pellicer spoke about important figures of Cuban literature such as National Hero José Martí, poet Nicolás Guillén and writers Alejo Carpentier and José Lezama Lima, of whom he detailed important aspects of their work.
When asked about the influence of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and the Cuban-Argentinean guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara, he highlighted the legacy of both leaders in the society of the Latin American country.
Their ideas are very present in Cuba and even beyond its borders, said Pellicer.
He also explained to those present the negative consequences for Cuba of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades.
Despite this, he recalled, the Caribbean nation has a long history of solidarity, evidenced by the sending of doctors to different latitudes.
Welcoming the diplomat, Naser Reda, secretary general of the center of higher studies, said that “the visit is the embodiment of the good and historic relations between the two nations.
We hope it will lay the foundation for more fruitful cooperation between our cultural and scientific institutions, he said.
For her part, Amani Kamal, dean of the Higher Institute of Languages of that university, highlighted “the historical and fraternal bond between Cuba and Egypt, two nations united by shared values of solidarity, culture and cooperation.”
Cuba, with its rich cultural heritage and resilient spirit, and Egypt, cradle of civilizations, have cultivated a relationship of mutual respect and exchange in areas such as education, culture and diplomacy, she said. (PL/Embacuba Egipto)
