JAKARTA, 12 September 2024- Ambassador of Cuba to ASEAN presents letters of credentials to the Secretary General of ASEAN

Ambassador Dagmar González Grau of the Republic of Cuba presented credentials to ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn today at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat, officially taking over her role as Ambassador of Cuba to ASEAN.

Dr. Kao Kim Hourn congratulated Ambassador Dagmar González Grau on her new position and affirmed the commitment of the ASEAN Secretariat to collaborate closely with her and the Embassy of Cuba in Jakarta to improve relations and cooperation between ASEAN and Cuba. The speaker encouraged Cuba to continue exploring collaboration with ASEAN in areas of mutual interest. Furthermore, he suggested that Cuba strengthen its commitment to ASEAN through its role in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Ambassador Dagmar González Grau stressed Cuba's interest in promoting mutually beneficial relations and providing these relations with commercial economic content, investments and cooperation programs. He expressed his willingness to strengthen cooperative relations in health, biotechnology, human resource training, natural disasters and climate change and expressed his willingness to work closely to explore cooperation opportunities with ASEAN and its Member States.

In 2020, Cuba acceded to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), demonstrating its commitment to regional peace and stability, and the promotion of friendly and cooperative relations with ASEAN. The ASEAN Committee in Havana, Cuba (ACHC) was established in 2022 to promote ASEAN relations and cooperation with Cuba in the host country.
