Ambassador of Cuba exchanges with key government figures and other personalities on the occasion of the National Day New Zealand

Waitangi 2015

Waitangi, February 5th 2015. On the occasion of commemorating the 175th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, which marks the celebration of the National Day of New Zealand, Ambassador of Cuba, Maria del Carmen Herrera Caseiro, and the Minister Manuel Sanchez Oliva, they participated in the program of activities organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to mark the occasion.

The activities took place in the historic town of Waitangi, where originally the important treaty was signed, which gave the opportunity to diplomatic representatives to delve into the history of New Zealand, as well as to participate in the ceremonies that take place each year to remember that historical fact.

In this context, the Cuban ambassador saluted and held cordial exchanges with the Governor General, Hon. Mr. Lieutenant General Sir. Jerry Mateparae, Prime Minister Zealand, John Key Right Honourable, the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Bill Inglés, with Foreign Minister Hon. Murray McCully, as well as the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. David Carter Honourable, who moved congratulations on behalf of the government and the Cuban people, while commented on relations between the two countries and current issues related to Cuba.

The occasion was also a good opportunity to share and discuss with leaders and Foreign Ministry officials who accompanied the diplomatic corps during the program, including the Chief Executive of Foreign Affairs on Mr. Craig Hawke, who visited Cuba in October 2014 to lead the New Zealand delegation to the Official dialogue between the two countries held in Havana.

At the same time, the Cuban diplomat greeted the new leader of New Zealand Labour Party, Honorable Andrew Little, and other parliamentarians who attended the celebrations.
