Cuban Ambassador and New Zealand academic highlight international solidarity at conference in Wellington

Wellington, May 5, 2026.- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to New Zealand, Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez, and Dr. Josephine Varghese, Professor of Political Science at the University of Canterbury, delivered a conference on May 4 at the Victoria University of Wellington, at the invitation of the university’s Latin Club.

The event brought together students, academics, and members of the Cuba Friendship Association in Wellington, creating a space for dialogue on current international dynamics and Cuba’s situation.

Expressions of Solidarity with Cuba at Hīkoi for Peace in Wellington

Wellington, April 25, 2026.- During the Hīkoi for Peace held in Wellington between Waitangi Park and the Pukeahu War Memorial, expressions of support and solidarity with Cuba were part of a broader advocacy for peace, justice, and international solidarity.

Messages in support of Cuba reflected the longstanding ties of friendship and the commitment of different sectors of New Zealand society to causes, as well as opposition to coercive policies and all forms of interference.

Wellington, April 22, 2026.- The Ambassador of Cuba received on a courtesy visit Ms Kayla Polamalu, Second Secretary-designate to the Embassy of New Zealand in Mexico, which is concurrently accredited to Cuba.

During the cordial exchange, the New Zealand diplomat received an update on Cuba’s current realities and the main issues on the bilateral agenda. Both sides also discussed opportunities to continue strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and New Zealand.

Cuba and the Centre for Pacific Languages explore opportunities for educational and cultural cooperation

April 15, 2026.- The Ambassador of Cuba to New Zealand, Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez, held a productive meeting with Fesaitu Solomone, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Pacific Languages (CPL), during which both sides explored opportunities for cooperation in the fields of education and culture.

During the meeting, potential joint initiatives were discussed, aimed at promoting linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as strengthening capacities in language education and intercultural training.
