Cuban Ambassador in New Zealand Hosts Nuncio Apostolic in Warm Reception

Wellington, 12 May 2025 — The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to New Zealand, Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez, and his family warmly welcomed His Excellency Archbishop Gábor Pintér, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See, and his Secretary, Reverend Giosuè Busti, at the Ambassador’s residence.

During the cordial gathering, the Cuban Ambassador reaffirmed Cuba’s strong commitment to further strengthening diplomatic relations with the Holy See, which this year marks the 90th anniversary of their official establishment.

Cuban Embassy Celebrates Participation in Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club Regatta

Wellington, 11 May 2025 — The Embassy of Cuba in New Zealand proudly took part in the traditional Regatta organized by the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, a nautical event that brought together 26 boats, many of them representing diplomatic missions accredited in Wellington.

This year, the Cuban representation achieved a commendable 5th place, thanks to the outstanding performance of Captain Mike West and his crew. The Cuban Ambassador expressed his sincere gratitude to Captain West, highlighting his professionalism, sportsmanship, and warm cooperation with the Cuban delegation.

GRULAC Working Lunch with MFAT Officials in Wellington

Wellington, 2 May 2025 — This afternoon, a working lunch was held at the Cuban Residence in Wellington between the member countries of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) and senior officials from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

The lunch was attended by the Ambassadors of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, and Peru, along with Grahame Morton, Deputy Secretary for the Americas and Asia; James Waite, Manager of the Americas Division; and Tui Dewes, Unit Manager for Canada and Latin America.

The event was held at the historic Northern Club in Auckland’s CBD and featured the Ambassadors of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, and Peru.
