Cuban Ambassador meets with Green Party Members of Parliament

Wellington, 2 April 2026. — The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to New Zealand, Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez, held a cordial meeting with Green Party Members of Parliament Tamatha Paul and Ricardo Menéndez March.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the international and regional situation, as well as on issues of mutual interest.

The occasion provided an opportunity for the Cuban Ambassador to brief the parliamentarians on the current situation in Cuba and the main challenges facing the country, particularly the effects and consequences of the tightening of United States sanctions against Cuba, including the economic, commercial and financial embargo and measures aimed at restricting fuel supplies to the island.

The Cuban diplomat also expressed appreciation for New Zealand’s longstanding support for the resolution entitled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba”, which is presented annually before the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting took place in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, allowing for an exchange of views on the situation in Cuba and the importance of continuing to strengthen dialogue and mutual understanding.
