Ambassador of Cuba exchanges with UNESCO Assistant Director General for Priority Africa and External Relations

Paris, 22 May. In an atmosphere of cordiality, the Cuban Ambassador to UNESCO Maria del Carmen Herrera Caseiro exchanged with the Assistant Director General for Priority Africa and External Relations, Mr. Anthony Ohemeng-Boamah.

At the meeting, the Cuban diplomat thanked UNESCO for its traditional support by promptly sending its contribution each year to the report of the UN Secretary General on the implementation of the General Assembly resolution that demands the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba.

In this context, the representative of Cuba emphasized the importance of denouncing the negative impact of this policy on the Cuban people, as well as the obstacle that it represents for the development of UNESCO cooperation programs in Cuba. She highlighted the unprecedented tightening of the blockade, exacerbated by the inclusion of Cuba on the State Department's unilateral list of States that supposedly sponsor terrorism.

On the other hand, they discussed UNESCO's cooperation with Cuba and the joint and systematic work with the Organization's Office in Havana, which had a favorable impact on the development of Cuba in UNESCO's spheres of competence.

In addition, they spoke about Cuba's historical relations with African countries, as well as other multilateral issues.
