Cuba promotes at UNESCO the Strategy on Disability Inclusion

Paris, 26 September 2025. — Cuba reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and strengthening inclusion across the various areas of UNESCO’s work, by actively participating in two important discussions convened in September as part of the preparations for the 222nd session of the UNESCO Executive Board.

On 17 September, the Permanent Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO took part in the information meeting organized by the Organization’s Secretariat to present the new Strategy on Disability Inclusion. Subsequently, the Delegation also participated in the meeting of the Group of Friends on Disability, chaired by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, held on the morning of 26 September.

Paris, September 23, 2025. — UNESCO expresses its profound sorrow over the passing of Professor Eduardo Torres Cuevas, a distinguished Cuban historian, scholar, and intellectual, who died on August 31 in Havana. Renowned for his work in preserving Cuban history and culture, as well as serving as a member of the Jury of the UNESCO José Martí International Prize, his legacy continues to inspire generations of researchers and academics in Cuba, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Havana, September 17, 2025. — The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, presented today the update of the National Report on the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, corresponding to the period from March 2024 to February 2025, pursuant to Resolution 79/7 of the United Nations General Assembly.

Cuba Denounces the Impact of the U.S. Blockade during the Regional Consultation on the World Heritage Strategy for Small Island Developing States (SIDS)

Paris, 16 September 2025. — The Republic of Cuba actively participated in the regional virtual consultation organized by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, aimed at key stakeholders from the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) of the Caribbean. The meeting sought to contribute to the design of the new World Heritage Strategy for SIDS and to define the next steps in its development.

In her analysis of the main threats and weaknesses, the Cuban representative referred to the negative impact of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, which hinders access to materials, technologies, and international funding necessary for heritage conservation. This context —she added— increases maintenance costs, hampers scientific and cultural cooperation, and limits opportunities for training and academic mobility.
