The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba expresses deep concern over the unfolding events in the Middle East, driven by the aggressive policies of the State of Israel, with military, logistical, and political support from the U.S. government. These actions have led to a dangerous escalation, further undermining regional stability and security, and provoking a response from Iran.
Paris, September 4, 2024. The meeting between the Cuban Ambassador María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro and the Assistant Director General for Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO, Ms. Gabriela Ramos, provided an excellent space to discuss the progress of cooperation and Cuba's participation in the activities of the Sector.
Both parties exchanged views on the challenges facing Cuba due to the tightening of the blockade imposed by the United States government and the unjust permanence of the country on the list of States allegedly sponsoring terrorism. They described Cuba's presence on this arbitrary list as "unjustified and unnecessary”.

The denunciation of Cuba's unjust permanence on the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism was the central axis of the meeting held by the Cuban Ambassador María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro with the new Assistant Director General of UNESCO for Priority Africa and External Relations, Mr. Firmin Edouard Matoko.
In thanking the international organization for its traditional support in the battle against the blockade through the sending of its annual contribution to the report of the UN Secretary General, the Cuban diplomat explained at length the negative repercussions of the inclusion of her country on the aforementioned list, which deepen the impact of the blockade.
In this regard, she referred to the additional barriers imposed by Cuba's presence on the list to all financial and commercial transactions of the country, the implementation of cooperation programs and the work of UNESCO.
The Ministry of Culture and the National Program against Racism and Racial Discrimination of the Republic of Cuba, with the support of the United Nations Population Fund, call for the International Conference "Cuba 2024 Decade of Afro-descendants Equality-equity-social justice" to be held from December 9 to 13, 2024, which will include panels and special interventions; visits to cultural and educational institutions and communities, as well as artistic presentations in the cities of Havana and Matanzas. It will be a space to debate, reflect and exchange experiences on issues of inclusion, integration and equality.
