Strong denunciation by Cuba of the consequences of the U.S. blockade against the Island during the G77 and China Chapter plenary meeting at UNESCO

Paris, 10 February 2026.– Cuba denounced the serious consequences of the tightening of the economic blockade imposed by the United States against the country during the First 2026 Plenary Meeting of the Group of 77 and China, UNESCO Chapter, held on the afternoon of 9 February at UNESCO Headquarters.

In her statement, the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Cuba to UNESCO, María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro, condemned the recent Executive Order signed on 29 January 2026 by the President of the United States, through which tariffs and sanctions are to be imposed on countries supplying oil to Cuba, as part of a strategy aimed at reinforcing the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Island.

SPECIAL COMMUNIQUÉ OF THE GROUP OF 77 AND CHINA ON THE NEW MEASURES AIMED AT TIGHTENING THE EMBARGO ON CUBA

New York, 5 February 2026.- Regarding the announcement by the Government of the United States of new measures further tightening the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed against the Republic of Cuba, including actions aimed at obstructing the supply of oil to the country and the imposition of sanctions on third States that engage in legitimate commercial relations with Cuba, which have clear extraterritorial effects, the Group stresses that these measures are contrary to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law, and undermine multilateralism, international economic cooperation and the rules-based, non-discriminatory, open, fair and equitable multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core. At the same time, they aggravate Cuba's difficulties to carry out financial and commercial operations, threatening the livelihood and integrity of the Cuban population.

New York, 3 February 2026.- The Non-Aligned Movement expresses its deep concern over the recent announcement by the Government of the United States of new extreme measures aimed at further tightening the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed against the Republic of Cuba, including actions intended to obstruct fuel supplies to the country and to sanction third States maintaining legitimate commercial relations with Cuba.

Cuba denounces US siege and media manipulation at UNESCO

Paris, February 3, 2026. – During the Information Meeting convened by UNESCO's Communication and Information Sector to present the results of the report "Global Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development 2022-2025," the Permanent Delegation of Cuba to the Organization denounced the new and severe escalation of the US economic blockade against the Island, qualifying it as a flagrant violation of International Law and an act of political harassment that undermines the conditions for the full exercise of the rights to communication and information.

Cuba denounces new aggressive escalation by the United States at regional UNESCO meeting

Paris, February 2, 2026. – The Permanent Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO denounced, during the coordination meeting of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) accredited to the Organization, the scope of the new escalation of aggressions by the United States Government against Cuba and its implications for regional stability.

The Cuban representation recalled that Latin America and the Caribbean was proclaimed a Zone of Peace, a commitment also supported by the United Nations system, and warned of the threats posed by recent US actions, in open contradiction with the United Nations Charter and International Law.
