Colombo, May 11, 2024. The Cuban ambassador to Sri Lanka Andrés Marcelo González Garrido, participated as a guest of honor, in the final match of the 2024 National Baseball Super League organized by the National Baseball Association, at the Baseball Fields from the International Diyagama Stadium. Present at the competition, Majoj C. Fernando, Vice President of the National Baseball Association.
The presence of the Cuban ambassador in this event reaffirms the interest of the directors of this sports association to strengthen ties with Cuba, taking into account that baseball is the national sport of the Caribbean country with extensive experience and important results in international events.
The Sri Lanka Baseball and Softball Association (SLBSA) is affiliated with the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) and the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA). SLBSA is also recognized by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and is a national body approved by the Ministry of Sports of Sri Lanka. SLBSA has members throughout Sri Lanka along with the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Air Force as cooperating members. The Baseball Association has 34 clubs throughout the country and 20,000 fans.
