Kingston 8 October 2024. Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica Fermín Quiñones Sánchez intervened in the weekly session of the City Council of Kingston and St. Andrew, following an invitation extended by Mayor Andrew Swaby.
During the plenary session of the Council, Mayor Swaby highlighted the ties that unite both nations and the collaboration that Cuba offers to Jamaica, especially in education and health, despite the permanence of the criminal policy of economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States against Cuba and the inclusion of the Island in the spurious list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.
For his part, the Cuban diplomat, in his speech, reviewed passages of history that link Kingston and Cuba and reiterated his gratitude to the Jamaican people for their continued support in their struggle against the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States government against the Cuban people and the removal of the island from the unilateral List of States that allegedly sponsor terrorism. He also addressed the historic ties between Jamaica and Cuba as a sign of brotherhood between the two Caribbean states and the possibilities of expanding trade and bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of their respective peoples.
