Kingston, 22 February 2023. The Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica Fermín Quiñones Sánchez was received with military honours by the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and held a courtesy meeting with Rear Admiral Antonette Wemyss Gorman, Chief of Staff.
During the exchange, the Cuban diplomat highlighted the collaboration between the coast guard services of both nations in the fight against different crimes and expressed the gratitude of the Cuban people and government to the Jamaican Defence Forces for the logistical support provided to transport solidarity aid to Cuba after the unfortunate accident at the Matanzas supertanker base.
Among other issues, the Rear Admiral called for closer bilateral cooperation and praised Cuba's work and prestige in preventing and dealing with natural disasters, the control of the damage they cause and the low rate of deaths caused by these phenomena in our country
