Nairobi, June 14, 2023- The Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry of the Republic of Kenya, Hon. Soipan Tuya, received the Ambassador of Cuba, Juan Manuel Rodríguez Vázquez.
During the meeting, the Kenyan CS thanked the invitation extended by the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment of the Republic of Cuba, Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, to attend the meeting of Ministers and High Authorities of the Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation of Group 77 and China, which will be held on July 4, 2023 in Havana, within the framework of the Environment Convention that is held from July 3 to 7. In this regard, H.E assured the participation of a Kenyan representation in the event. She also highlighted that both countries share similar environmental challenges and the alternatives must be based on promote development.
For his part, the Cuban envoy alluded to being honored by the invitation extended to the Minister Elba Rosa to attend the African Environment Summit, which will take place from September 4 to 6 in Nairobi. He also highlighted the special and historical ties that bind Cuba and the African continent, and especially to Kenya.
Both sides also addressed the potential of Cuba and Kenya to develop cooperation relations in environmental issues, and agreed to work together towards the achievement of this objective.
