Cuban Ambassador Roger López García held a meeting with the Head of the Communist Party in Denmark (KPID). The meeting was headed by its President, Rikki Carlsson, and the Secretary of Internationals, Bo Moller.
During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat referred to the effects of the international economic crisis, aggravated by Covid-19, and the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States that, promoted by the Trump Administration, has caused damage for more of 5 billion dollars.
In the same way, he explained that the country has had to face the impact of the lack of tourist arrivals, as a consequence of the expansion of the pandemic, which has affected foreign exchange earnings and the Gross Domestic Product.
He also highlighted that the Cuban government worked to create a strategy that is based on maintaining centralized planning of the economy, although granting greater autonomy to the business sector aimed at boosting national production, stimulating competitiveness, efficiency and savings.
He referred to the fact that, at present, it is essential to advance in the Strategy of monetary and exchange unification in the country, put into practice on January 1, 2021, known as economic reorganization, with a salary increase, with a rise in prices in correspondence with salaries, increase in rates, change in subsidy plans, among other economic measures designed to respond to the Cuban reality, prop up the economy and promote development.
He pointed out that this process makes wages the main source of wealth and income, which guarantees to cover the needs of workers and their families, and that they will also improve pensions and social security benefits, always protecting vulnerable sectors.
He said that the year 2021 will be a very important year to try to boost the economy, despite adversities, the blockade, and the international crisis.
He concluded that the country will continue to fight to maintain independence and sovereignty with popular participation, thinking about equality and social justice.
