The Ambassador of Cuba met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis

Basseterre, March 2, 2026— Ambassador of Cuba Giuvel Orozco Ortega was received by The Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Ian Hanley, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth Empowerment, Housing & Human Settlement, Ecclesiastical & Faith-Based Affairs, Social Development, Gender Affairs, Aging and Disabilities.

During the cordial meeting, they exchanged views on the good state of bilateral relations and the historical ties between the two nations.

The Honorable Deputy Prime Minister recognized Cuba's enormous contribution to the education sector in Saint Kitts and Nevis through the scholarships awarded each year to young nationals to study medicine and engineering and subsequently contribute to the development and service of the communities of Saint Kitts and Nevis.

The Cuban diplomat reaffirmed the willingness to continue developing bilateral relations and expand them to other non-traditional areas, taking into account the potential. Furthermore, he thanked Saint Kitts and Nevis for its solidarity with the Cuban people's demand to end the U.S. economic, financial, and commercial blockade against Cuba.

Ambassador Orozco also explained the devastating effects that the illegal fuel blockade imposed by the United States government since January 29 has had on the Cuban population and the daily lives of all Cubans. He also described the negative impact that the reinforcement of this cruel policy of economic warfare against Cuba has on basic services and the health system, and called on Saint Kitts and Nevis to oppose those measures.
