Oslo, October 28, 2022. Between the 11th and 13th of this month, the Cuban ambassador, Maité Rivero Torres, responded positively to an invitation sent to the Diplomatic Corps by the Secretary General of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tore Hattrem, to make a visit to the archipelago of Svalbard, located in the Arctic Ocean.
Together with her colleagues from several countries, the Cuban diplomat fulfilled a program that included meetings with Lars Fause, Governor of Svalbard, and Jøran Moen, director of the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS).
She also attended a ceremony in which seeds from various countries were deposited in the Global Seed Vault.
The program also included a polar marine excursion in the Isfjord on board the "Polarsyssel" ship, a tour of Longyearbyen, as well as visits to facilities related to the observation and research of the northern lights, to the SvalSat satellite station and to the Svalbard Museum, among other activities.
