SRI LANKA, October 5, 2020. - The Ambassador of Cuba, Juana Elena Ramos Rodríguez, attended as a special guest the ceremony commemorating the 103rd birth anniversary of Pieter Keuneman, founder of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka.

In her speech, the Cuban Ambassador highlighted the meeting between Pieter Keuneman and the Commander in Chief in Havana in 1983, on the occasion of the III Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC).

Likewise, the Ambassador denounced the double standards of the United States government in the fight against terrorism, while demanding public condemnation of the attack perpetrated against the Cuban Embassy in Washington on April 30, 2020 when an individual armed with a rifle assault fired over 30 rounds against the diplomatic mission and later admitted to his intention to kill.

The Cuban diplomat also demanded a cease of the hostility and slanderous campaign against the altruistic work by Cuba´s international medical cooperation that, with much prestige and verifiable results, has contributed to saving hundreds of lives and lowering the impact of the disease in many countries. Prominent international figures and highly prestigious social organizations have acknowledged the humanistic work done by the “Henry Reeve” International Medical Brigade for Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics and called for the Nobel Peace Prize to be given to them.
