AMBASSADOR OF CUBA TO UNESCO DENOUNCES NEGATIVE IMPACT OF UNJUST PRESENCE OF CUBA ON THE LIST OF COUNTRIES SPONSORING TERRORISM

Paris, August 6, 2024. The Cuban Ambassador to UNESCO, María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro, denounced the especially harmful effects for the Cuban economy and people derived from the unjust inclusion of her country in the arbitrary list of States supposedly sponsoring terrorism. "The unjustified presence of Cuba on the list aggravates the impact of the blockade that has intensified to unprecedented levels in recent years, hinders all financial and commercial transactions, the implementation of cooperation programs...", expressed the Cuban diplomat in the presentation she made in the “Cuba House” in Tremblay, France.

In her speech, which dealt with the issue of Cuba at UNESCO, the island's representative referred to the growing international demand in favor of the end of the blockade and the exclusion of her country from the list, highlighting in particular the calls in that regard issued by the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77 and China; as well as by the ALBA countries at UNESCO.

At the same time, she recognized the support of the international organization in the battle against the blockade, by submitting each year its contribution to the report of the UN Secretary General under the Cuban resolution demanding the end of the blockade.

On the other hand, she referred to the excellent relations between Cuba and UNESCO, especially after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, based on the coincidence of the values and principles of the Organization with the broad program of social, cultural and educational transformations undertaken by the Revolution; as well as on the commitment of both parties in favor of multilateralism, peace, cooperation and the promotion of sustainable development.

An important space in her presentation was dedicated to Cuba's activity in UNESCO, to cooperation programs, such as Transcultura, to national cultural sites and manifestations recognized as World Heritage; to Cuban materials of exceptional value registered in the international registry of documentary heritage Memories of the World; as well as the UNESCO prizes sponsored by Cuba, the José Martí prize in social sciences and the Carlos J. Finlay prize in microbiology.

The activity was attended by the Head of the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis, Mr. Stèphane Troussel, to which the city of Tremblay-en-France belongs, whose mayor, Mr. Francois Asensi, also participated.
