The Cuban Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark, Roger López García, paid a visit to the “Vestergaard” dairy farm in Gilleleje, north of Copenhagen.
The Cuban diplomat was received by the owner, Mr. Enok Vestergaard, who conducted a tour of his property, which has 300 dairy cows (265 milk-producing Holstein cows and 35 heifers); and approximately 400 hectares of land.
The reference farm, which produces around 9,000 liters of milk per day, supplies all its production daily to the regional dairy processing plant in the region where it is located.
The Cuban diplomat's attention is part of the joint actions for the creation of a dairy farm operation in Cuba in the form of a Mixed Company.
As was already presented in the project proposal, “Cuba Development Co”, it would promote the improvement of the agro-industrial sector in Cuba -in support of economic and social development-, it would be involved in the efficiency of the production of high quality dairy products destined for the local market, the tourism sector, and will be part of the nation's strategy for the promotion of exports.
The visit allowed the representative of the Greater Antilles to learn about the development of modern dairy farming, the feed efficiency of reces, the quality of milk, animal welfare, sustainable production, and the proper management of its operation.
During the tour were present Mr. Bent Lund, one of the largest farmers in the North of the Jutland Region, and Mr. Steen Steesen, State Consultant of “Danish Farmers Abroad”, which is an association of large agricultural companies; with special interest in international agriculture.
Mr. Vestergaaard, a member of the farm's fifth generation of farmers, together with Mr. Lund, make up the “Arla Foods” cooperative, the largest dairy group in Northern Europe.
