Ambassador of Cuba visits the headquarters of the PAHO / WHO representation in Jamaica.

Kingston, Jamaica, 5 March 2020. Dr. Bernadette Theodore-Gandi, representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in Jamaica, received a courtesy call by the Ambassador of Cuba at the Caribbean nation, H.E Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández.

The Cuban diplomat provided details on the international medical cooperation offered by Cuba, emphasizing the results of the assistance that the Greatest Island in the Antilles has provided to Jamaica for more than three decades. Currently, more than 300 Cuban health professionals render their services in hospitals and health centres located throughout the Jamaican geography.

For his part, the coordinator of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Jamaica, Dr. Armando Arronte Villamarín, also present at the meeting, referred to the existing potential for extending the bilateral cooperation in the health sector. He also mentioned the programs under way in the country, with special emphasis on Operation Miracle, an initiative that has allowed performing thousands of free eye surgeries to help people in Jamaica to recover from blindness.

Dr. Bernadette Theodore-Gandi commended Cuba´s solidarity and praised the significant progress of this nation in the field of public health.
