Ambassador denounces blockade and energy siege during solidarity event with Cuba

The Ambassador of Cuba to Grenada, Yadirys Echenique Paz, spoke at the first solidarity dinner organized as part of the Citizens for Cuba campaign. In an atmosphere of fraternity, she thanked the organizers and participants for their effort and dedication, emphasizing that the gesture honors the tradition of friendship between both peoples.

The diplomat highlighted that the initiatives promoted within the framework of the campaign represent more than material support, affirming that “they are an expression of conscience and justice, reminding us that solidarity is the force that unites peoples in the face of adversity.”

In her speech, Echenique Paz denounced the impact of the U.S. blockade, tightened in recent years, and pointed to the devastating effect of the energy siege imposed against the Greater of the Antilles. She explained that, apart from an isolated shipment of fuel from Russia, Cuba has not received new supplies and is facing the depletion of its reserves, directly affecting the daily life of the population.

The Ambassador also warned of the increase in warlike rhetoric against Cuba and threats of military aggression. In the face of this hostile discourse, she reaffirmed that the homeland of Martí is a nation of peace and solidarity, which has never ceased to share what it has with other peoples, even amid its own difficulties. “Our people, noble, supportive, hardworking, and kind, do not deserve to be attacked by U.S. military might,” she stressed.

At another point in her remarks, she evoked the centenary of Fidel Castro and the figure of Maurice Bishop, underscoring the historic unity between Cuba and Grenada. She recalled that Fidel taught that solidarity is a revolutionary duty and cited the thought of José Martí: “He who rises today with Cuba, rises for all time.”
