The Cuban Ambassador in Azerbaijan, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, met at the headquarters of the Administration of the Historic-Architectural Reserve of the Ichersheher State, (Old City of Baku) with the Head of the Office and the head of the restoration work that is being carried out. carrying out in this area of the Azeri capital, Asgar Alakbarov.
In the talks both parties explained about the restoration and conservation projects that are carried out in Old Havana (Cuba) and ancient Baku (Azerbaijan), areas declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
Asgar Alakbarov and Nieves Portuodo valued the importance of cooperation between the Administration of the Historic-Architectural Reserve of the Ichersheher State and the Office of the Historian of Old Havana, two homologous institutions dedicated to the preservation, study and propagation of monuments, the architecture and culture of its historical territories.
On the other hand, both parties considered it very important to organize cultural events that stimulate interest in the national culture of both countries.
During the work meeting, the diplomat explained that the Office of the Historian of Havana, was created in 1938 by Dr. Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, for the protection of Old Havana and that the restoration of the historic area was maintained and increased with Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, who in 1967 becomes the Historian of the City of Havana and is currently the highest authority for the integral restoration of the Historic Center.
For his part, the Azeri director stressed that the Historical-Ethnographic Reserve of the State of Ichersheher was established in accordance with Resolution No. 135 of the Council of Ministers of the former Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan on April 18, 1988.
